Access the equipment compartment
Locate the equipment side of your spa and remove the side panel. Most panels pop off with clips or have a few thumb screws. Set the panel aside safely.
Check your spa manual if you are unsure which panel to remove.
Locate your Balboa or Gecko controller
Inside the compartment you will see the control box — a rectangular unit with cables running to it. It will be labeled Balboa or Gecko. Unscrew the front panel of the control box to access the ports inside.
Usually 4 screws. A screwdriver is all you need.
Find the right port and plug in
Locate the auxiliary port inside the control box. It is a standard connector, usually labeled AUX or COM. Plug in the Spapilot cable — push straight in until it clicks. Then screw the control box panel back on.
The connector only fits one way. Always insert it straight — never at an angle, as this could damage the port.
Find the best spot inside the cabinet
Place the Spapilot device as close to your WiFi router as possible for the best signal. If the router is inside the house, place the device near the panel opening. Check WiFi signal strength before closing the panel.

The app is free. No subscription required for basic control.
Connect your spa to WiFi
Open the app and tap 'Add new device'. The app will find your Spapilot via WiFi. Follow the on-screen steps: select your control system type, enter your home WiFi password, and name your spa.
Use 2.4 GHz WiFi. The setup takes about 2 minutes. Stay close to the spa during setup.
Close up and enjoy
Once the app confirms your spa is connected, put the side panel back on. Your spa is now smart — control temperature, jets, and lighting from anywhere. The LED on the Spapilot device confirms it is online.
Done! Open the app anytime to control your spa, check energy usage, and set schedules.
